I got this book as an Advance Reader copy from NetGalley.
Itβs a quick, compelling read that uses a powerful story to explore a critical question: what are your core values, and how do you live them?
Instead of just presenting exercises, Glazer wraps them in a relatable story that helps the concepts hit home.
The (5+1) questions that help us figure out our values:
- [?] In what nonwork environments are you highly engaged, and why?
- [?] In what professional roles or jobs have you done your best work, and why?
- [?] What help, advice, or qualities do others come to you for?
- [?] When have you been disengaged in a personal or professional setting, and why?
- [?] What qualities in other people do you struggle with most?
- [?] What would you want to be said about you in your eulogy?
And once we have figured out the core values, these followup questions help solidify the statement:
- Figure out the right theme
- [?] Can you use your core value to make a decision?
- [?] Does the opposite of your core values cause discomfort?
- Figure out the right wording
- [?] Is the core value a phrase rather than a single word?
- [?] Can you objectively rate yourself on it?
