Graham Island is a submerged volcanic island south of Sicily that keeps appearing and disappearing over the centuries.

Due to volcanic activity in the Mediterranean Sea, this island is formed for a short period before being washed away by the wind and the waves.

The most recent appearance of the island was in July 1831. Right away, Sicily (the Kingdom of Sicily) claimed it and called it Isola Ferdinandea and a couple of weeks later, the British navy claimed and named in Graham’s island. Soon, France joined in and named it Île Julia. Spain named it Isla Ferdinandea as they too wanted to claim it.

By December 1831, the island had disappeared. As of 2016, the island is 6m under sea level.
